Trip Overview
The Arun Valley Trek is not just a trek, it's an adventure that takes you deep into the heart of the Himalayan region in Nepal. It's a journey that will captivate you with its diverse landscapes, ancient villages, and the serene beauty of the Arun River valley.
The Arun Valley Trek typically starts from the town of Tumlingtar and winds its way through lush forests, terraced farmlands, and quaint Sherpa settlements. It offers stunning views of the mighty Himalayan peaks, including the majestic Mount Makalu, the fifth-highest mountain in the world.
As you ascend through the valley, you'll encounter a variety of terrain, from dense rhododendron forests to rugged mountain trails. But it's not just about the landscapes. Along the way, you'll have the unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the region's rich cultural heritage, visit ancient monasteries, meet friendly locals, and experience the unique Sherpa way of life.
One of the highlights of the Arun Valley Trek is the scenic trek along the Arun River, which winds its way through the valley. The river is a prominent feature of the region, providing a source of livelihood for the local communities and offering a serene backdrop to the trekking experience.
The trek also offers the chance to explore some remote and less-visited areas of Nepal, allowing you to witness the unspoiled natural beauty and traditional way of life often overshadowed by the more popular trekking destinations.
The Arun Valley Trek is a challenging adventure, demanding good physical fitness and endurance. However, the stunning scenery and the sense of accomplishment upon reaching the higher elevations make the trek an enriching and rewarding experience.

Equipment list for Arun Valley Trek
This checklist is designed to help you prepare for a trekking holiday in Nepal, with additional notes for those attempting to summit a trekking peak. It's reassuring to know that high-quality gear, including outdoor clothing and sleeping bags, can be conveniently rented in Kathmandu.
Most treks will be in lodges or teahouses, which offer basic rooms with two single beds and mattresses. These lodges, with their cozy rooms and provided blankets, ensure a comfortable stay, making your trek a more enjoyable experience. A good-quality three-season sleeping bag should suffice. However, for trekking peaks, you'll generally set up base camp with tents, necessitating a warmer sleeping bag, a liner to enhance its warmth, and a sleeping mattress.
