Trip Overview
The Everest High Pass Trek is an adventurous and challenging trekking route in the Everest region of Nepal. It allows trekkers to conquer three high mountain passes: Renjo La Pass, Cho La Pass, and Kongma La Pass. This trek is ideal for experienced trekkers looking to push their limits and explore the remote and less-traveled areas of the Everest region.
The trek typically starts in Lukla, where you will fly from Kathmandu. From Lukla, the trail ascends through picturesque villages, dense forests of rhododendron and pine, and glacier-carved valleys, offering stunning views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks.
The first pass you will encounter on this trek is the Renjo La Pass, located at 5,340 meters. From the top of Renjo La, you are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, and other peaks. The trail then descends into the Gokyo Valley, where you can explore the beautiful Gokyo Lakes and climb up Gokyo Ri for a bird's eye view of the surrounding Himalayas.
The trek continues towards the next challenge - the Cho La Pass, a high mountain pass at 5,420 meters. Crossing the Cho La Pass is a thrilling and demanding experience as you navigate through icy terrain and rocky slopes. From the top of Cho La, you will be treated to awe-inspiring views of towering peaks and glaciated valleys.
After conquering Cho La Pass, the trek takes you to Everest Base Camp, where you can soak in the majestic beauty of the Khumbu Icefall and the surrounding Himalayan giants. The final pass of the trek is Kongma La Pass, located at an altitude of 5,535 meters. It offers a challenging but rewarding ascent and astonishing views of Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu.
Throughout the trek, you can immerse yourself in the rich Sherpa culture, visiting monasteries, prayer wheels, and traditional villages. Accommodation on the trek is typically in tea houses, providing a cozy and welcoming atmosphere after a day of trekking.
The Everest High Pass Trek is physically demanding and requires good fitness and acclimatization to the high altitudes. However, the sense of achievement and the unparalleled beauty of the Himalayas make this trek a truly remarkable and unforgettable adventure for those seeking a thrilling high-mountain experience.

Equipment list for Everest High Pass Trek
This checklist is designed to help you prepare for a trekking holiday in Nepal, with additional notes for those attempting to summit a trekking peak. It's reassuring to know that high-quality gear, including outdoor clothing and sleeping bags, can be conveniently rented in Kathmandu.
Most treks will be in lodges or teahouses, which offer basic rooms with two single beds and mattresses. These lodges, with their cozy rooms and provided blankets, ensure a comfortable stay, making your trek a more enjoyable experience. A good-quality three-season sleeping bag should suffice. However, for trekking peaks, you'll generally set up base camp with tents, necessitating a warmer sleeping bag, a liner to enhance its warmth, and a sleeping mattress.
