Trip Overview
Pisang Peak Climbing is an unforgettable adventure that provides a unique opportunity to explore the heart of the Annapurna region. It is a journey that challenges body and spirit, rewarding climbers with unparalleled views, rich cultural interactions, and a profound sense of accomplishment. Whether you are an experienced mountaineer or a trekking enthusiast seeking to venture into high-altitude climbing, Pisang Peak offers a remarkable and enriching Himalayan experience. It's important to note that this expedition requires a good level of physical fitness and stamina, as you'll be trekking for several hours a day and ascending to high altitudes.
Pisang Peak, also known as Jong Ri, stands at an impressive altitude of 6,091 meters (19,984 feet) and is one of the most popular trekking peaks in the Annapurna region of Nepal. It offers an excellent introduction to Himalayan climbing, combining the thrill of mountaineering with the cultural richness of the Annapurna Circuit. The peak is situated above the village of Pisang in the Manang District, providing climbers with spectacular views of the Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. The climb is technically moderate, making it accessible for climbers with basic mountaineering skills, including using ice axes, crampons, and ropes. We provide all the necessary technical equipment, including ice axes, crampons, ropes, and harnesses, so you don't have to worry about bringing your own.
The adventure begins in Kathmandu, the vibrant capital of Nepal, where climbers prepare and acquire the necessary permits for the expedition. From Kathmandu, the journey continues with a scenic drive to Besisahar, the starting point of the Annapurna Circuit. The trek to Pisang Peak follows one of the most iconic trekking routes in the world, passing through lush subtropical forests, terraced fields, and traditional Gurung and Manangi villages, offering a rich cultural immersion. The trail gradually ascends, offering trekkers a chance to acclimatize while soaking in the breathtaking landscapes of the Marsyangdi River Valley. This journey is not just about the physical challenge, but also about the rich cultural experiences that await, as you immerse yourself in the traditions and customs of the local communities.
As trekkers progress, the landscape transforms into a dramatic alpine environment with towering snow-capped peaks and glacial rivers. The village of Pisang, located at approximately 3,200 meters (10,498 feet), serves as the base for acclimatization and preparation for the climb. From Pisang, climbers trek to the Pisang Peak Base Camp, situated at around 4,380 meters (14,370 feet). The base camp offers panoramic views of the surrounding peaks and serves as the starting point for the final ascent.
The climb to Pisang Peak begins with a trek to the high camp at about 5,400 meters (17,716 feet). The route involves ascending through rocky ridges and snowfields, requiring climbers to use technical equipment and skills. The final push to the summit is a challenging yet exhilarating experience involving steep snow and ice slopes. The summit ridge is narrow and exposed, demanding careful navigation and teamwork. Rest assured, our experienced guides will be with you every step of the way, providing support and guidance to ensure your safety and success. Upon reaching the summit, climbers are rewarded with awe-inspiring views of the Annapurna II, III, IV, Gangapurna, Tilicho Peak, and the distant Manaslu range.
The descent follows the same route back to the base camp, and climbers then rejoin the Annapurna Circuit, continuing their trek through the region's stunning landscapes. The journey takes them over the Thorong La Pass, one of the highest trekking passes in the world, at an altitude of 5,416 meters (17,769 feet). The descent from the pass leads to the sacred pilgrimage town of Muktinath and the arid landscapes of the Mustang region. The trek concludes in Jomsom, where climbers can fly back to Pokhara and then return to Kathmandu.
The entire Pisang Peak climbing expedition typically spans around 18 to 21 days, depending on the chosen itinerary and acclimatization schedule. We offer flexible itineraries to cater to different fitness levels and time constraints. The experience is a perfect blend of adventure, cultural exploration, and natural beauty, offering climbers a deep connection with the Himalayan environment and the local communities. The Annapurna region is known for its diverse flora and fauna, and trekkers may encounter a variety of wildlife, including Himalayan tahr, blue sheep, and various bird species. This journey is not just about conquering a peak, but also about appreciating and respecting the natural and cultural heritage of the region.

Equipment list for Pisang Peak Climbing
This checklist is designed to help you prepare for a trekking holiday in Nepal, with additional notes for those attempting to summit a trekking peak. It's reassuring to know that high-quality gear, including outdoor clothing and sleeping bags, can be conveniently rented in Kathmandu.
Most treks will be in lodges or teahouses, which offer basic rooms with two single beds and mattresses. These lodges, with their cozy rooms and provided blankets, ensure a comfortable stay, making your trek a more enjoyable experience. A good-quality three-season sleeping bag should suffice. However, for trekking peaks, you'll generally set up base camp with tents, necessitating a warmer sleeping bag, a liner to enhance its warmth, and a sleeping mattress.
